Martin Brodeur's long and accomplished career is over, but his time as an executive is about to begin.

No goaltender has more NHL wins than Brodeur, who is retiring after 25 seasons and has accepted a job within the Blues' front office.

Brodeur's position with the organization is described as "a management role in hockey operations" by the franchise's official website.

Brodeur is only expected to remain with the Blues until the end of the season, at which point he is reportedly set to re-join the New Jersey Devils, where he played for 24 years, according to Devils president and general manager Lou Lamoriello.

"He could've come here if he wanted to," Lamoriello told nj.com. "I don't think it's a case of choosing. He's been (in St. Louis) with the players. The players and administration asked him to stay. I certainly understand. Marty and I have been in constant contact."

Lamoriello added: "I support this."

Brodeur, 42, signed with the Blues in December following an injury to Brian Elliott and went 3-3-0.

They were the only NHL games he has ever played outside of the Devils organization.

Elliott returned earlier this month and the team's necessity for Brodeur's services diminished.

Brodeur holds the NHL's all-time goalie records for games played (1,266), wins (691) and shutouts (125).
