Blackhawks encouraged by Kane's progress

Chicago Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said he is pleased with Patrick Kane's recovery from surgery to repair a broken left clavicle.

Kane was operated on last month after losing balance and crashing into the boards during a 3-0 NHL win over the Florida Panthers on February 24, with a 12-week absence pencilled in as a result.

While the timetable of Kane's return has not changed, Quenneville is encouraged by the 26-year-old's progress.

"I think it's the same timetable, but I think how well he's skating and how well he's doing, I think he feels really good about where he's at," Quenneville said on Friday.

"It's just a matter of when he can get that green light is probably going to be the hurdle. We like his approach.

"He's doing a lot of things out there he wants to do or is able to do. That's a good sign."

In order for Kane, who was the joint-points leader in the NHL with 64 before the injury, to play again this season, the Blackhawks (44-23-6) must advance past the first two rounds of the Stanley Cup play-offs.

"The first hurdle is you've got to be comfortable with the doctors," Quenneville said. "From there we'll make decisions on [him playing]. I think we're all in it collectively, but the doctors have the ultimate say on that."
