Athletics' utilityman Ben Zobrist

Athletics utilityman Ben Zobrist is scheduled to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, Comcast SportsNet reports.

Zobrist was placed on the 15-day disabled list earlier Saturday with torn cartilage in his left knee. Zobrist left last Sunday's game against the Royals with soreness in his left knee, and after further evaluations, the team decided surgery was the best option.

“I’m disappointed. I just didn’t feel like I could be the player that this team needs me to be in the condition I was trying to play in,” Zobrist said, via the Washington Post. “So I got to get it cleaned up and get back out here as soon as possible.”

The 33-year-old is hitting .240/.304/.400 in his first season with the Athletics after spending nine seasons in Tampa, where he was a two-time All-Star.
