Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez keeps working his way up baseball's all-time leaderboards.

Rodriguez hit a three-run home run in the third inning of Wednesday afternoon's 4-2 win over the Royals.

With that, he now has 1,995 RBIs for his career. That number either ties him with Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig for third on MLB's official RBI list or moves him past the Yankees great. According to both MLB.com and Baseball-Reference.com, Gehrig retired with 1,995 RBIs. The Yankees created confusion Wednesday when they tweeted that Gehrig had 1,993 RBIs.

It's worth noting that RBIs were not an official statistic until 1920, meaning Babe Ruth would have 2,213 instead of his "official" mark of 1,990. Cap Anson, who retired in 1897, finished with 2,075 RBIs. Gehrig's career began in 1923, meaning all of his RBIs were official stats.

Rodriguez is just one RBI behind Barry Bonds but still far behind Hank Aaron's total of 2,297. Rodriguez is also just 19 hits shy of 3,000.

Rodriguez moved past Willie Mays on baseball's all-time home run list earlier this month. He is now hitting .276 with 11 home runs and 26 RBIs this season.
