Arizona track assistant allegedly choked athlete, threatened her with box cutter

University of Arizona assistant track coach Craig Carter has admitted to stalking, threatening and assaulting a female athlete he was in a relationship with after being arrested last Friday on domestic violence charges, the Arizona Daily Star reported Wednesday.

Carter allegedly threatened the victim with a box cutter, choked and stalked her, and tried to drag her out of a classroom before she escaped. The victim told police Carter said "I'll cut that pretty face" as he choked her in his office.

Investigators have revealed 57 texts and emails containing threats that Carter sent to the victim between April 26 and May 1. The two were in a relationship for more than two years.

Carter remains in the Pima County Jail with bond set at $40,000. He faces three domestic violence charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Carter, 47, was a two-time All-American at Utah State and has coached throwing sports at Arizona since 2006. He has been placed on administrative leave with pay.
