Swedish police have issued an arrest warrant for former NHL player Andre Deveaux regarding a violent slashing incident during a game last week, according to a report from The Local.

The ex-Maple Leafs and Rangers center was captured on video viciously striking Per Helmersson with his stick ahead of a playoff clash between Deveaux's Rogle BK and VIK Vasteras on Thursday.

Rogle — now promoted to the Swedish top flight — terminated Deveaux's contract on Monday after footage of the incident emerged on the internet. A warrant has been issued for the 31-year-old's arrest and police confirmed they are looking into what took place.

Helmersson was able to complete the match and, in a subsequent interview, Deveaux questioned the seriousness of the incident.

"How bad can it be? They're shooting pucks at us and then there's a scrum," he told a local television station. "Can he really be hurt? I mean he played tonight, he played the last game."

Asked whether he should be suspended, Deveaux responded, "No. Are you kidding?"
