Ducks reel in Jets again

RyanKesler - Cropped

The Anaheim Ducks completed another third-period comeback to move within a win of the Western Conference semi-finals on Monday, as the Winnipeg Jets' first play-off match at home in 19 years ended in defeat.

For the third straight match, the Ducks trailed the Jets at the end of the second period but Ryan Kesler scored with two minutes, 14 seconds remaining to force overtime, before Rickard Rakell struck the decisive goal in the sixth minute of the extra period.

Anaheim trailed 1-0, led 2-1, fell behind at 3-2 and 4-3 before Kesler's late heroics put them on course for a 3-0 series advantage.

According to Elias Sports, the Ducks are the first team in NHL history to win three straight play-off games when trailing at any point in the third period of all three games.

"They [the Ducks] go right to the end of the game," Jets winger Bryan Little said.

"It almost gets in your head how good they are at it."

If Anaheim win in Winnipeg again on Thursday, they will advance to the next round of the Stanley Cup play-offs.

In New York, the Rangers hosted their first game of their series against the Pittsburgh Penguins with Carl Hagelin and Chris Kreider scoring in a 2-1 win for the hosts.

Patric Hornqvist struck in the final period for the Penguins but it was too little, too late, as the Rangers claimed a 2-1 series lead.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota Wild cruised past the St Louis Blues 3-0 to also edge ahead in their quarter-final series.

Zach Parise and Jason Pominville were the match-winners for the Wild - who were also at home for the first time in their series - with the pair combining for both of Minnesota's goals in the second period.
