A-Rod's debut at first base draws praise from Joe Girardi

Yankees infielder Alex Rodriguez

Alex Rodriguez’s debut at first base was, by most accounts, a success.

"It was quite interesting after 20 years in the league to see the game from a totally different lens,” Rodriguez told reporters Sunday after the Yankees’ 7-0 victory against the Astros. “It was pretty cool.”

Rodriguez played three innings at first and handled all three chances, including a flip to pitcher Nathan Eovaldi after briefly bobbling a ball hit to A-Rod’s right.

“He looked comfortable,” Joe Girardi said. “Around the bag, he didn’t look like it was foreign to him. He’s got a nice glove.”

A nice compliment from his manager, considering Rodriguez said the glove was the toughest part of the transition.

“I think the most inconvenient part is just getting used to the glove,” he said (via New York Daily News). “That will take a little getting used to. Everything else is baseball.”
