With Adrian Peterson cleared to play Week 1 of the NFL season, the trade market for the All-Pro rusher has revved up.

According to a Pioneer Press source, six teams are in the running for Peterson — the Cardinals, Falcons, Cowboys, Jaguars, Chargers and Buccaneers.

"If he's not traded next week, they're going to keep him," the unnamed source said.

Each of the six teams has a presumed need at running back. Arizona is projected to take a back in the first round to pair with Andre Ellington, while Atlanta, Dallas, Jacksonville, San Diego and Tampa Bay all need a staple rusher in their backfield.

On Monday, Peterson's agent, Ben Dogra, posted a photo of himself on Facebook wearing a Buccaneers jersey with Peterson's jersey in the background, presumably sending a message that Peterson is going to explore his options.

Peterson is owed $12.75 million next season and $43.25 million over the next three seasons, but doesn’t want to spend those prime years with an organization he feels didn’t stand by him during his child abuse case and suspension last season.

Earlier reports said the Vikings want a first-round draft choice and more for Peterson, but the source said the Vikings would do well if they "got a second-round pick and a player."

The Pioneer Press source said the Vikings will work with Peterson on the trade if a team wants to restructure his contract after a deal is made, in order to give Peterson some say in his future. Or, of course, the Vikings could always hold onto Peterson.

"They hold all the cards right now," the source said.
