Report: Vikings would want first-rounder, more for Adrian Peterson

The Vikings want Adrian Peterson back but they do have another option: trade the running back and load up on talent.

According to ESPN's Adam Caplan, the Vikings could receive a first-round pick and "more compensation" if they choose to trade Peterson. Caplan stated that Minnesota likely would want a starting cornerback on top of a first-round pick, or a first-round and second-round pick.

Peterson would have to restructure his contract with a new team for that to work. He's slated to earn $12.75 million next year, and it would be a large risk for another team to take a 30-year-old running back with such a high price tag.

Peterson still isn't sold on embracing the Vikings after his NFL reinstatement last Friday, stating that he feels "uneasy" and that the organization didn't have his back while he was under investigation for child abuse. However, since he still has a contract with the team through 2017, there isn't much he can do.
