West Coast braced for wet MCG

West Coast assistant coach Justin Longmuir is unfazed by the wintry conditions his side will encounter in their blockbuster clash with Collingwood at the MCG on Saturday.

Melbourne has endured a cold snap in recent days, with plenty of rain meaning the surface will be heavy underfoot come Saturday.

But Longmuir believes the wet ground will be in the Eagles' favour.

"I think it'll play into our hands," a confident Longmuir told reporters at Junction Oval on Friday.

"We've had wet conditions in Perth for two weeks, we played Carlton in wet conditions last week and did really well.

"We had a good opportunity at our main training session this week. It rained non-stop throughout the session so we were able to really prepare well for this week if it is going to rain.

"The conditions won't play a factor in the game."

West Coast have only been able to manage two victories at the MCG since they won the Grand Final in 2006.

But Longmuir sees the match as a good chance for his side against a formidable opponent.

"It's a great opportunity for us," he said.

"We don't get to play at the 'G that much. At the MCG last year our performances improved throughout the year so it's a good opportunity to see where we are at against good quality opposition on the home of football.

Eagles' ruckman Nic Naitanui starred in the club's 10-point win over the Blues, winning a career-high 25 disposals, combined with 31 hit-outs.

His impact on Saturday will prove vital as, alongside fellow big man Dean Cox, he attempts to give the visitors first use of the ball.

Longmuir was full of praise for Naitanui's ability, but wants him to become more consistent to fulfil his obvious potential.

"He can be one of the better players in the AFL. There's no doubt about that, he can do things that other footballers can't do," he said.

"He has just got to be able to do the things that other footballers do every week; he's got to be able to do every week, when he gets that consistency he will become a very good player."

West Coast welcome back vice-captain Beau Waters from suspension for the match against the Magpies, with Mitch Brown also recalled, while Will Schofield (hamstring) and Adam Selwood (illness) miss out.
