Trengove ready for Roo

After being dropped by Matthew Primus for the Showdown, Port Adelaide's utility Jackson Trengove returned to some form last week in the Power's 11-point win over the Hawks and now says he's ready for Nick Reiwoldt.

Trengove said Reiwoldt is no doubt one of the game's greatest and he would be happy to get the job of marking the superstar when the Power meet St Kilda at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Trengove conceded he's probably third in the pecking order of key defenders at Port Adelaide but said he wants to take on the "best."

"He's obviously a champion player and you want to play against the best," he said.

"We've got Alipate (Carlile) and Troy Chaplin down there as well, two terrific players in defence for us. I guess they'll get the first crack but if I do get a crack I'll be happy to have a go at it."

The 19 year-old said the Saints' spearhead is a genuine superstar and his amazing endurance makes the task of containing the captain even more difficult.

"He works so hard, he wants the footy and he demands that off his players and his team around him. When he demands the footy he normally gets it. It's going to be a fair job for whoever gets him and hopefully we can get the job done," Trengove said.

"He's a super competitor and can obviously run all day. You've not only got to bring your competitiveness but your wheels because you'll have to run all day."

Trengove started as a pinch-hitting ruckman for the Power after debuting this season but has even featured in the forward line where he has kicked a few goals.

The 15-gamer was matched up on Lance Franklin for periods during the Hawthorn game, rotating with Carlile while trying to release Chaplin into a 'loose man in defence' role.

Although Franklin managed three goals, Buddy was far from damaging as the Power defence limited his effect on the game.

Trengove acknowledges he has become Port's own 'Mr Fix-it' plugging the holes in the ruck, up forward or in defence but said he sees himself forging a future in the Power's back half.

"I think I'd like to settle down back at some stage," he said.

"If it happens, I'm not sure when. I might go into the ruck or play up forward this week it can all change in a week but it was good to go down back and play on a good quality forward on the weekend."

With the Saints enduring a horrid few weeks, two losses either side of a draw, Trengove is expecting a spirited response from last year's grand finalist labelling Sunday's match as another tough ask for the Power.

"I'm sure every team that comes off a loss would be pretty spirited," he said.

"St Kilda are pushing for a spot in the top four and they're a terrific side and they're going to bounce out quickly and we've got to be prepared for that."

"They've got some big players and big hard bodies. They're similar to Geelong. They're hard at the footy, a super side and we can't fault them one bit. So, coming off a loss it's going to be an extra important for them and another tough task for us."

Trengove denied the turf at Etihad would pose problems for either side saying with all the recent talk about the track, ground staff will have the grass in the right condition.

"We went down there and played against North Melbourne and it was in pretty good nick," he said.

"Obviously there has been a fair bit of talk about it in the last few weeks which is a little bit concerning for us but I'm sure they'll do a good job during the week to get it right for the game."
