As expected, Australia's best 18-year-old forward Boyd was drafted by GWS with their first pick in the 2013 AFL national draft on Thursday night.

And the Giants also added the player rated the country's best 18-year-old midfielder, Josh Kelly, with pick two in the draft held at the Gold Coast.

Power forward Boyd, from Victorian under-18 side Eastern Ranges, gives the Giants a frightening forward line triumvirate should he slot into immediate AFL action next year as expected.

The Giants already have All-Australian Jeremy Cameron, who booted 62 goals last season, and the gifted but injury-hit Jonathon Patton as key forwards.

Fellow Victorian Kelly also adds to the AFL newcomers' stockpile of young talent, gathered through two previous drafts which provided the Giants with heavy concessions to build their playing list.

St Kilda took exciting Oakleigh Chargers forward/midfielder Jack Billings at No.3, while the Western Bulldogs drafted raw-boned midfielder Marcus Bontempelli at four.

Collingwood took South Australian utility Matt Scharenberg and Sandringham Dragons midfielder Nathan Freeman with their two top 10 selections - picks six and 10 respectively.

Tasmanian half-back flanker Kade Kolodjashnij was drafted by Gold Coast at pick five, while North Melbourne used their No.8 selection to draft father-son half-back Luke McDonald, son of Donald, who played 155 games for the Kangaroos.

South Australian midfielder James Aish (Brisbane Lions, seven) and Sandringham Dragons midfielder Christian Salem (Melbourne, nine) rounded out the top 10.
