Gold Coast Suns defender Seb Tape will require a full knee reconstruction which will sideline him for the remainder of the 2012 season.

Tape, 19, injured his right knee in the third quarter of the Suns' seven-point loss to the Kangaroos on Saturday.

Gold Coast Football Operations Manager Marcus Ashcroft said the Suns' medical team would meet with surgeons to decide when Tape will have surgery.

"The nature of the injury means Seb will miss the rest of the 2012 season and will be in rehabilitation mode when the 2013 pre-season commences," Ashcroft said.

Tape has had a terrible season with injury so far, after knocking out three of his teeth in the Suns' loss to the Crows in Round 1, forcing him to miss the next game.

The 19-year-old has played 23 games since being drafted at pick No.13 in the 2010 AFL draft.
