What happened

The Swans regained their one-game lead at the top of the ladder with a 71–point belting of Carlton.

Brownlow Medal contender Josh Kennedy had an AFL record 29 contested possessions in a performance sure to earn votes from the umpires.

After just seven points separated the two sides at half-time, the Swans exploded after the long break with 10.4 to Carlton's 0.1 in the third term.

Stone cold in the first half, Lance Franklin burst into the game, booting five goals in the third quarter.

Buddy finished with six majors while Sam Reid contributed four goals.

Lachie Henderson was the Blues' only multiple goalkicker with two majors, while fading superstar Chris Judd struggled to have an impact.

Winning streak equalled

The Swans matched a winning streak set three times in club history, the last of which came way back in 1935.

The Swans won the flag in 1935, and this performance has only strengthened their status as favourites to lift the cup in 2014.

But premiership rival Fremantle is only a fortnight away from breaking its own all time winning streak (nine games in 2006).

Hope he's in my fantasy team

Kennedy (58.5 per cent) was down on his usual kicking efficiency but still finished with 41 touches and ruckman Mike Pyke had a career-best 53 hit-outs.

Bryce Gibbs (29 disposals, 10 clearances, seven tackles) and Marc Murphy (29 disposals, seven clearances) led the way for Carlton.

What's next

The Swans have a week of next round before heading to the MCG for a Saturday blockbuster fixture against Hawthorn on July 26.

The Blues have a six-day break before facing the in-form North Melbourne on Friday night at Etihad Stadium.
