As his club prepares to take on Hawthorn in Saturday's AFL Grand Final, Ireland says the Swans are fed up of McGuire whinging about Sydney's cost of living allowance.

McGuire's feud with the Swans has bubbled throughout 2014, and turned nasty when first-year Swans chairman Andrew Pridham labelled Eddie "the equivalent of Clive Palmer".

In July, McGuire finished his radio segment by saying “get stuffed Sydney” and was the main campaigner in convincing the AFL Commission to abolish the 9.8 per cent allowance.

"I think it is reasonably poor form from Eddie because of the fact he’s on the public record when he was living here saying that COLA was absolutely needed and he actually argued that the AFL should be paying it," Ireland told SEN on Wednesday afternoon.

"We know where we stand and are confident with the way we run our club."

Many Victorian-based AFL fans believe a Sydney premiership in 2014 would be unfair because of the cost of living allowance, which is due to be phased out from next year.

But Ireland argued the reason the Swans were able to recruit power forwards Lance Franklin and Kurt Tippett was due to the tough list management decisions they have made over the last two seasons.

He explained that the departures of Shane Mumford, Jesse White, Tony Armstrong and Jed Lamb had freed salary cap space.

"We do probably get a bit peeved but the AFL determined, and rightfully so, that the cost of living in Sydney is considerably higher than anywhere else in Australia.

“There has never been a pot that can be used and the only reason we were able to put those new recruits on the park is because we made about three million dollars worth of space in the cap over the last two years."
