Swans brace for fired-up Buddy

Sydney coach John Longmire is expecting Lance Franklin to be fired up for a big performance when his side takes on Hawthorn in a rematch of last year's grand final at the MCG on Saturday night.

Franklin has been held goalless in his past two matches and if he doesn't manage to break his drought against the Swans it will be the first time in his 167-game career that he has failed to kick a goal in three consecutive matches.

The 26-year-old was among the Hawks best in last year's premiership decider and Longmire is worried the star forward is ready to replicate that match.

"We all know what he can do when he is playing at his best," Longmire said of Franklin.

"He looks as though he's competing really well and working really hard and he is having some shots at goal.

"So he is working really hard.

"He's missed a few, but we know him at his best and that's at the absolute top end."

Longmire is happy with the way the Swans have been playing, but still believes there are areas his side can improve on.

"You are always looking for ways to improve and there are things we can improve on from the weekend," he said.

"There were patches of the game we were really pleased with and we did it for a bit longer than in previous weeks which was a good sign.

"We need to keep going and keep getting better than what we were on the weekend."

Premiership defender Rhyce Shaw will miss again for the Swans as he recovers from an abdominal strain, while Longmire was unsure whether Jed Lamb would retain his spot in the side after his seven-possession performance as sub against the Lions on the weekend.

But Longmire is likely to keep changes to a minimum as the Swans travel south in an attempt to make it three wins on the trot and hold on to their spot in the top four.

"We are really looking forward to the opportunity of getting down there and playing a team that is in really good form," Longmire said.

"We struck some form on the weekend as well and we are really looking forward to it.
