Spell check outs Eagle

West Coast defender Eric Mackenzie will miss Saturday's clash with the Brisbane Lions through suspension after the discovery of a spelling error in the processing of a striking charge against him.

The AFL initially advised Mackenzie that he had no existing good or bad record and could accept a reprimand for striking Docker Michael Johnson during last Sunday's Western Derby at Subiaco Oval.

But the league overlooked a reprimand and 93.75 points that Mackenzie attracted for rough conduct against Essendon's Jay Neagle only two weeks ago in Round 16.

It's understood a search of the records failed to uncover the carryover points because Mackenzie's name had been misspelt.

When the Neagle points were added to the 125 demerit points from the Johnson charge, it amounted to 218.75 points and a two-match sanction.

Mackenzie has agreed to an early plea which reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to a 164.06 points and a one-match sanction.

The 22-year-old from Claremont has played 15 matches in 2010 for a career total of 39 since making his debut against Port Adelaide in Round 15, 2007.
