Hawthorn midfielder Isaac Smith has agreed to a new two-year deal which will see him stay with the Hawks until the end of the 2014 season.

The 23-year-old, who is the first of seven re-signings that will be announced by Hawthorn this week, also has a clause in his contract for a third year.

"It is a great opportunity and hopefully I can deliver on it," Smith told the Hawthorn website.

"When I came in I wanted to have an impact on the senior team.

"There was a bit of talk (about GWS) but there was nothing to ever consider. I love Hawthorn."

Smith capped off a stunning rise through the football ranks in 2010 when he was taken by the Hawks with pick No.19 in the draft that year.

Smith started off 2010 by playing for Redan in the Ballarat Football League, before being picked up by VFL side North Ballarat later in the year where he played six games - including the premiership.

Since debuting for the Hawks in Round 7 last year, he has played 25 games and kicked 27 goals.

Coach Alastair Clarkson described Smith as someone who 'provides us with plenty of energy both on the ground and off the ground'.
