Port Adelaide forward Jay Schulz is likely to remain in hospital for a week after spending the night in Melbourne with internal bleeding.

Schulz collided with the knee of team-mate Justin Westhoff in a marking contest during the second quarter of Sunday's 35-point loss to the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium and was admitted into intensive care following the match.

Scans revealed the 27-year-old suffered isolated internal bleeding in the bowel and he is expected to be moved to a general medical ward, where he will be closely monitored for seven days.

Doctors are still to determine the full extent of the injury, and while the bleeding is believed to have stopped, he is likely to be sidelined for several weeks.
