Hawthorn have re-signed key defender Ryan Schoenmakers in a deal that will keep the 21-year-old with the club until the end of 2014.

Schoenmakers became the fourth Hawk to ink a new contract with the club this week, as part of their bye-week re-signing initiative, following the lead of Isaac Smith, Grant Birchall and Sam Mitchell.

The 193cm defender was taken with pick 16 in the 2008 National Draft and made his debut against Geelong in Round 1 2009.

He has made 47 appearances for the Hawks and has been an ever-present this season, after finding himself in and out of the side during his first three seasons.

Schoenmakers, who was recruited from South Australian club Norwood, said he was delighted with the faith shown in him by the club.

"It's a great feeling having the coaches believe in you, and (it) makes my job easier," Schoenmakers told the Hawks website.
