Sandi gets wrestled

Fremantle coach Mark Harvey believes ruckman Aaron Sandilands is being held off the ball so much he needs wrestling training from UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar.

Speaking at training on Wednesday morning, Harvey said the only means many clubs had of stopping giant ruckman Sandilands was to hold him off the ball instead of trying to beat him for height.

The tactics don't appear to be working so well, as the 211cm Sandilands has still amassed a whopping 584 hit outs this season, his average of 36.5 per game making it almost certain he will smash former Carlton big man Matthew Allan's 11-year record of 716 for a season.

But Harvey still believes more can be done by umpires to protect Sandilands from negating tactics by other clubs.

"Effectively before the ball gets either thrown in or whether it's a ball up, they're wrestling Aaron," Harvey said.

"He's getting double teamed and he's getting wrestled and he's getting stripped whatever you want to call it, that's happening to him and in my eyes it's illegal."

"Do you know who Brock Lesnar is? He's from the UFC ok, he's a world champion and it's getting that bad that we're going to have to bring him over just to get some wrestling techniques for Aaron."

Harvey said the club was in the process of collecting video clips and other evidence for umpires boss Jeff Gieschen that shows Sandilands being impeded at ruck contests.

"They're (the other clubs) looking at different ways and methods to try to control what he's doing and it should be scrutinised a lot more heavily than what it is," said Harvey.

"We are compiling a lot of evidence and data about it and they (the AFL) will get that very soon."

"If you have a look at last weekend, I think he had three or four free kicks and a lot of it was for holding. It was holding arms, it was for holding legs, so that's evidence of it."
