Rioli to face Tribunal

Hawthorn star Cyril Rioli will head to the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night hoping to have the fallout from his moment of madness in Round 18 capped at a one-week ban.

Rioli will definitely miss Saturday's SCG clash with Sydney after choosing not to fight a level three striking charge - arising from an incident involving Port Adelaide's Nick Salter - that would have resulted in a two-match ban had he unsuccessfully challenged at the tribunal.

But Rioli has chosen to fight a second charge of attempting to strike Salter in an effort to ensure he is available for the Hawks' Round 20 clash with the Demons at the MCG.

With 68 carryover points now hanging over his head Rioli will also be forced to sit out the match against Melbourne if he fails to have the attempting to strike charge overturned, with 80 demerit points to be added if he is found guilty.

Brisbane forward Brendan Fevola's poor recent run continued when he was fined $3000 for holding Melbourne opponent Colin Garland in a headlock while West Coast's Eric McKenzie has accepted a reprimand and 93.75 carryover points for striking Fremantle's Michael Johnson.

Four players from the same match have also accepted fines, Eagle Patrick McGinnity and Docker Adam McPhee $900 lighter in the pocket for wrestling each other and McGinnity's team-mate Scott Selwood and Freo young gun Stephen Hill receiving the same penalty after a separate wrestle.

And Saturday's melee between Port Adelaide and Hawthorn clash has left Power players Dean Brogan, Paul Stewart, Robbie Gray and Salter $1200 poorer while Rioli, Jarryd Roughead, Brad Sewell and Chance Bateman received the same financial penalty and Brent Renouf was docked $2100 for a second offence.

And St Kilda's Sean Dempster also chose not to contest a charge of making negligent contact with an umpire, resulting in a $900 fine.
