More: Fev slammed for Goodes tweet l Adam's war dance no Goodes for AFL fans

Goodes, the 2014 Australian of the Year, caused controversy when he appeared to direct a war dance celebration at a section of Carlton fans during the 122-62 win at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Friday night.

There had been speculation in the lead up to the game about what kind of reception Goodes would receive from Carlton fans.

Former Blues player Brendan Fevola copped a hiding on Twitter for suggesting Carlton supporters should cheer for Goodes.

It is unclear whether Goodes was booed during the game, and when he was asked afterwards if the celebration was directed at Carlton fans, he replied: “not at all. It’s Indigenous Round, I’m proud to be Aboriginal and to represent.”

Goodes’ jersey was specially designed by his mum, and the two-time Brownlow Medal winner went on to say: “it’s good, mum’s here up in the stands and the boys love the design, so does everyone here, it’s a fantastic round and it was amazing to kick it off.”
