Seven’s decision is a huge win for AFL fans who have long lobbied the station to show the game’s biggest day in HD.
The heat will now be applied to Channel 9 to do likewise and screen the Brisbane-North Queensland showdown on one of its HD stations.
Nine can elect to show the game on either GEM or Go as well as its main channel but is so far refusing to budge.
It’s believed discussions will continue during the week at Nine, with an announcement expected in coming days.
