Pratt slams erratic MRP

North Melbourne defender Daniel Pratt has called for an immediate review of the match review panel because 'a few inconsistencies' in the past month are 'frustrating' players.

Speaking at Arden St on Monday morning, the day after the Kangaroos had thrashed the Tigers by 50 points to keep their finals hopes alive, Pratt said he believed the AFL needed to bring forward a proposed review that had been set down for the end of the season.

Pratt's team-mate Sam Wright was left heavily concussed in the second quarter at the MCG when he took a mark and was bumped heavily from behind by Trent Cotchin immediately after, with Wright sent to hospital for precautionary scans.

Having defended Cotchin's actions as 'a bit out of character' and admitted players were disappointed that split-second decisions they have to make in terms of attempting to spoil or bump could have such heavy penalties, Pratt nonetheless predicted Cotchin's three-week ban.

"It is getting frustrating. There's a lot of hype around what's going to happen at the match review panel with a lot of instances," Pratt said.

"I think it's getting towards a time when the players want to have it reviewed."

"There's too many inconsistencies now and the speed of the game's increased so much that decisions like that for Cotchin to stay or go, if you put it in context of when he's got the football, if he makes the wrong decision with the ball ... it's just a turnover but if you make a wrong decision there you can find yourself getting weeks."

"It would be good if they could have a look at it and the sooner the better."

According to Pratt, the speed of the modern game means that players have almost no time to make decisions that could have major consequences for them and their team.

"The speed of the game's increased so much over the last 12 months that it'd just be good to have another look at it I think," he added.

"These split second decisions you've got to make right on the spot and it can be very difficult as a player, especially one of those do I spoil or do I stay down?"

"I think sometimes it gets hard when the ball's moving like that … and you can close 50 metres in about two seconds."

"If you're closing 50 metres in two seconds and you've got to make decision in the last five metres it makes it pretty hard to make a decision whether you stay or go and that's one of the things I think they should look at as well as a couple of other things as well."

"It's a very hard job for them as well I know that, especially with the points system and they've just got to go by the system they have, but maybe it's the system that's got to be reviewed rather than any particular people making decisions."
