This year: 11 wins, 11 losses, 87.41 percentage

This year's grade (A-F): C+

Positives from this year: Clearly the improvement of a host of youngsters under new coach Brad Scott, including Leigh Adams, Levin Greenwood, Ben Warren and Todd Goldstein as well as the arrival of first-year players Ryan Bastinac and Ben Cunnington, who both look stars of the future, has plenty of Roos fans excited. Skipper Brent Harvey had another consistent season as he clocked up his 300th game while Andrew Swallow proved his best and fairest win in 2009 was no fluke and Brady Rawlings and Michael Firrito had great years down back.

Negatives from this year: Injuries took a major toll throughout the campaign with Drew Petrie managing just two games as he suffered several foot injuries and Liam Anthony (shoulder) and Jack Ziebwell (broken leg) also spent long periods on the sidelines again. The other worrying sign for Scott was that while they beat the majority of the teams that were at or just below their level - apart from perhaps the season-opening loss to Port and the one later in the year against Essendon they were found wanting several times against the genuine heavyweights of the competition and in most cases fell away badly once they realized victory was out of the question, the worst examples coming in the 17-goal loss to St Kilda in Round 2 and a pair of hidings from the Bulldogs.

Likely departures: Corey Jones has retired and Josh Smith and rookies Conor Meredith, Warren Benjamin and Alan Obst have all been delisted, while David Hale is expected to draw interest in trade week and could be joined by Leigh Harding who didn't enjoy the best season in 2010.

Next year:

Type of Players needed: As is the case with most clubs Scott would no doubt love to be able to inject some genuine speed and class into his midfield which, apart from Harvey, is more of a hard-working engine room rather than an elite one of the likes of Geelong. With Rawlings heading towards the twilight of his career another player capable of playing his role mopping up in the back half and negating an opponent at the same time wouldn't go astray either.

Likely improvement: Scott is building a list that he feels can be a contender in coming seasons and with one or perhaps two more years of experience in his young squad he might just be proved correct. Nathan Grima and Scott Thompson have proved themselves ready to hold down the key defensive positions while the return of a fit Petrie in 2011 to play as a key tall will not only provide another target up forward but take some of the pressure off the likes of Warren and Lachie Hansen, the latter having found a place for himself in the front half this year.

Finals next year? Scott has already labeled 2010 a failure because the club missed the finals for the second year in a row and he spoke ad nauseam throughout the year about how he wants his team to not only get into the finals but then also be capable of winning matches against the competition's big boys. Having won 11 games in 2010 the rookie coach will be keen to build on that result and will definitely eye off a top-eight berth, even if there is also the potential for a slight backward step in 2011 with a list that is still so young.
