What happened

North Melbourne has recorded successive AFL victories with a 59-point thrashing of St Kilda at Hobart's Blundstone Arena.

Former Saint Nick Dal Santo adapted well to the chilly conditions, collecting 22 touches against his former team-mates, while Brent Harvey was North's moist influential player with 27 disposal and two goals.

The Kangaroos took control of the game from the opening bounce, leading by 30 points at quarter-time as the Saints managed to kick just three behinds in the first quarter.

It didn't improve for the Saints, who added just one goal in each of the next two quarters, as the Kangaroos took a 56-point lead into the final quarter.

St Kilda managed just three goals for the game, with inaccuracy a major problem.

While North dominated the match, the Saints only had nine less scoring shots (27-18).

For the losers it was again veterans Nick Riewoldt, Lenny Hayes and Leigh Montagna who carried the load, while David Armitage got plenty of the ball and kicked two goals by bursting through congestion.

Experienced backman Sam Fisher had a successful return in his first game of the season.

Before this round, the Kangaroos had strung together a win, loss, win, loss, win record in their previous five games.

Fallout

Unlike another former Saint – Essendon's Brendon Goddard – Dal Santo was emotionally strong enough not to cry during the post-match television interview.

"I didn't enjoy the last two hours, to be honest," Dal Santo told Fox Footy's Cameron Mooney.

"I was actually thankful I had Shane Savage running with me, instead of one of my good mates."

Hope he's in my fantasy team

Kangaroo Sam Wright had a game-high 30 disposals.

Armitage had 29 touches and 11 tackles to compliment his two majors.

Next week

North will aim for its third straight win on Friday night when it meets Carlton at Etihad Stadium.

St Kilda hosts Fremantle in the Saturday twilight game.
