New AFL franchise revealed on ESPN SportsCenter in US

AFL SportsCenter

When it comes to sporting events, no one does it better than the U.S.

Major sporting events are put on a pedestal - and so they should be.

Their major sports such as baseball, American Football, ice hockey and of course basketball are all major world events around play-off time, and the spectacle these codes produce is unrivalled.

Having said this, they’re by no stretch of the imagination experts on international sports such as Aussie Rules.

ESPN’s recent analysis of AFL on SportsCenter was cringeworthy to say the least.

It was however, equally as hilarious, as the show’s anchors Robert Flores and Kevin Connors bumbled their way through a feature on Australia’s game.

Now there’s no doubt that to the uninitiated, Aussie Rules is a tough game to get a grip of.

There’s also no doubt that the pair found this out the hard way, providing little-to-no insight on the intricacies of AFL.

“If I’m not mistaken, it’s a blend of rugby and mugging someone,” Connors said.

Unfortunately, the anchors didn’t quite nail their homework and referred to Collingwood as, “Collingworth.” Ouch!

They did however, enjoy Lindsay Thomas’ mark against the Suns last weekend and despite not knowing what, “a ripper,” meant, managed to get a grip on the game in the most basic sense.

Flores was nonetheless impressed with the high-flying Roo.

“I don’t know what a ripper is, but I like it,” Flores said.

“Now you see, if this was NFL, that’s incomplete - he did not complete the process Kevin.”
