Mumford out for Swans

Sydney coach Paul Roos has revealed ruckman Shane Mumford faces an uphill battle to be fit for Week 1 of the finals series with a knee injury.

Mumford, who has been a revelation for the Swans since making the move from Geelong in the off-season, suffered medial ligament damage in Saturday's big win over the Bulldogs.

"I think it's a medial (ligament strain) ... so the early indications are he definitely won't play this week and probably 50-50 for next week," Roos confirmed on Monday afternoon.

"Clearly we're not going to take any risks with him. It's normally a one to three week injury so we won't play him this week and we're expecting him to be right for the following week all things going well."

Asked who will join Mike Pyke in the ruck division for Saturday's clash against Brisbane, Roos indicated out-of-sorts forward Jesse White is the most likely candidate.

"Teddy Richards has done it in the past and Jesse White's done it in the past but it's probably more likely Jesse White (will partner Pyke)," he said.

"We've got obviously Ryan O'Keefe (groin) and Jarred Moore (concussion) coming back in so we'll probably re-structure our forward line a bit, so I'd say at this stage it'll probably be Pykey and Jesse (sharing) that role."

Meanwhile, Roos is hopeful key forward Daniel Bradshaw (knee/hamstring) will make his return for the reserves this weekend but admits the 31-year-old must play this weekend in order to earn a call-up for the finals.

"I wouldn't underestimate Daniel's importance as we saw earlier in the season," Roos said.

"But we won't take any risks obviously and he'd need to play in the seconds this week ... it'd be unlikely if he didn't play this week I don't think we'd bring him back the following week."

Midfielder Ben McGlynn is making a steady recovery from a fractured cheekbone suffered against Fremantle but is also a strong chance to miss the next two matches.

"I just had a chat to him then and he's recovering well," Roos said of the former Hawk.

"I just told him to relax and not worry too much about when he plays again. He's got to feel comfortable when he plays and the medical guys have got to give him the all-clear, so he'll probably start running on Friday and then we'll make some decision."

"He's probably 50-50 at best for next week - but we won't put any pressure on him."

The Swans moved into fifth spot on the AFL ladder with their big win over the Bulldogs and can secure a home final with a win over Brisbane this weekend.

But while delighted with his side's recent performances having won three consecutive matches, Roos insists the Lions must not be taken lightly.

"We're certainly playing our best football (of the year)," Roos said.

"We started off well obviously with five-and-one ... but I think given the quality of players we've got out I think our last three weeks of footy has been very, very good."

"They're always tough at the Gabba and obviously they had a good win at the weekend (against Essendon)."

"Jonathan Brown looks healthy again and plays extremely good footy. I mean they've still got some real quality players - (Simon) Black, (Luke) Power and Brown are still three of the best players in the competition."

"They've got a good blend of young players and older players so they'll go in with some confidence this week after last week's effort."
