Mike Sheahan defends Ricky Nixon interview

Ricky Nixon

Speaking to SEN, program host Sheahan felt people were wrong to suggest Nixon didn't face up to his mistakes.

"I don't think that's fair," Sheahan said.

"Here's a bloke who said, 'yes. I'm addicted', yes, he took cocaine. Yes, he's ruined his life. I think it's clearly unfair when people say that.

"I thought there were a couple of times when he was ready to take responsibility and he didn’t but I do think he laid himself bare."

Nixon copped a lashing on social media following the interview, with many pundits believing he dodged the truth regarding his affair with Kim Duthie.

"But he did admit that he went to the room. Look, I suppose that's back to the original point, he was prepared … he got to the point of saying, yes, hands up, silly irresponsible, lots of damage and then he sort of just backed away a few times but I thought there were plenty of admissions there," Sheahan said.

"My view about Ricky. He certainly looks healthier than I've seen him look for a long time. His skin was better, his eyes were clearer. Sometimes he's his own worst enemy with what he says, but that's Ricky."
