Richmond coach Damien Hardwick says star midfielder Dustin Martin is 'pretty close' to finally re-signing with the Tigers.

Several Tigers have re-signed this year, but Martin, 22, is yet to do so with interest reported from several other clubs.

But Hardwick believes it is only a matter of time before Martin commits to Richmond and said a deal for Reece Conca was also likely to be complete in the 'not too distant future'.

"We think we're pretty close with regard to that signing," Hardwick said of Martin.

"Dustin is obviously an important player, a fantastic player in his fourth year and just seems to get better every year.

"We think that deal will get done in the not too distant future."

Hardwick played down the hype surrounding the Tigers, who are certain to play finals and could even push for a top-four spot.

The Tigers, who face Carlton at the MCG on Saturday, will play finals for the first time since 2001 but Hardwick said the club should be aiming higher than just making the top eight.

"We haven't achieved anything. Good footy clubs strive to make finals and the reality is we've still got a long way to go," Hardwick said.

"We just don't want to be a part of it, we actually want to make a difference. That's our challenge."

Midfielder Daniel Jackson has been a key contributor for the Tigers in 2013, averaging 21.8 disposals per game and kicking 15 goals.

Hardwick, who has been eager for his team to become more consistent throughout the season, praised the 27-year-old.

"He's been in outstanding form. The thing that he's done is his consistency level over the course of the year has been fantastic," the coach said.

"He's had a fantastic season. The challenge for Dan is to continue that trend over the last three to four weeks of the year."
