The assault allegedly took place in Altona North in 2007 - three years before the 23-year-old joined the Kangaroos' list.

Daw is expected to be served with a summons on Tuesday after Victoria Police filed a charge summons on Monday.

The charges are believed to relate to allegations of penile, oral and digital rape.

The Sudanese-born forward has reportedly denied the allegations.

Victoria Police confirmed that a 23-year-old man from Wyndham Vale had been charged with three counts of rape by detectives from the Sex Crimes Department.

"The charges relate to an alleged historical assault in Altona North in 2007," the spokeswomen said.

"As the matter is before the courts, Victoria Police will not be making any further comment."

Daw has played 12 games for North Melbourne - including six this season - but has struggled to establish himself in a team laden with key position players.
