Magpies ring the changes

Collingwood will make at least three changes to their side that tackles fellow premiership aspirants West Coast at the MCG on Saturday.

Rookie coach Nathan Buckley declared Heath Shaw (calf), Ben Reid (quad) and Alan Toovey (calf) certain starters for the crucial Round-13 clash against the top-of-the-ladder Eagles, with the trio having done everything asked of them at training during the week.

"They have had some really good training in them and they are right to go," Buckley said.

"Reidy (Reid) has done everything asked and if there are any more boxes he needs to tick we can't find them.

"Toovs (Toovey) was touch and go for the Melbourne game and Shawy (Shaw) has been ready to go for a fair while."

While clubs in the past have been reluctant to rush back players recovering from soft tissue injuries, Buckley said there was no risk at all this time around.

"They are clearly three very important players to us and when you have got players of that talent and competitiveness we know they are going to have an impact," he said.

"I am more comfortable of bringing three players in of that calibre, especially against a good West Coast offence.

"They are ready to go and ready to have an impact."

Buckley is also toying with the idea of a fourth change, given the ruck strength the Eagles have at their disposal.

Dean Cox and Nic Naitanui have been crucial to the Eagles' good form this season and Buckley said he may need to include backup ruckman Cameron Wood to help out Darren Jolly in negating the Eagles duo.

"That is probably our biggest selection dilemma," Buckley said when asked if will consider playing two specialist ruckman.

"They have got such dominance and control in their ruck division.

"We have probably got two number one ruckman, but we see Jolls (Jolly) as the better option for us at the moment and Woody (Wood) is working hard to be that number one ruckman and to take the mantle.

Buckley said that Scott Pendlebury (leg) would not be risked against the Eagles, despite the fact the star onballer trained well on Wednesday.

Pendlebury could be back in time for the Pies Round-14 clash with the Dockers, while the injury news was also good for veteran forward Alan Didak, as he recovers from a groin complaint.

"We thought that Pendles (Pendlebury) might be right to go this week but we have had to extend that," Buckley said.

"We said Dids (Didak) was probably going to be two to four weeks, but it isn't as serious as his last incident.

"He was running really well today and we have been really happy with how they have both progressed."
