Lyon: No excuses

The Saints have ticked all the boxes and nothing's been left to chance heading into Saturday's preliminary final against the Western Bulldogs, according to St Kilda coach Ross Lyon.

"We're really confident that our game plan stands up under the fiercest heat," said a bullish Lyon ahead of his team's final training run (T2) at Moorabbin on Thursday.

"We're fit and we're healthy and we're rested and we're ready to go."

"We've trained really well and prepared as best we can."

"We're trying to be a great team and to be a great team you've got to accept the challenges laid in front of you."

"We've got a big one in front of us but we're really keen to get after it."

Standing in the Saints' way is a Bulldogs line-up that the open market says has little chance.

But Lyon rates the Dogs - who bounced back to form with a come-from-behind semi-final victory over the Sydney Swans last Saturday night - as a much better bet than their $4.50 price would suggest.

"It's a significant challenge, it's got a high degree of difficulty," Lyon said.

"The Western Bulldogs were top four and I keep hearing that they're undermanned and half-a-team but by my reckoning only (Adam) Cooney will miss and (Shaun) Higgins out of their best 22 theoretically."

"They're full of confidence after last week."

"We understand they're unpredictable, they'll flip (their forwards) around."

"They know us, we known them and it's about, under the heat of game day, working together and getting it done."

"It really is Round 25 with a big outcome and we just want to focus on the job at hand and get it done."

Lyon said the selection prospects of veteran defender Steven Baker who's been sidelined by suspension and injury since Round 13, remain "up in the air".

Baker was a late withdrawal from the qualifying final win over Geelong because of soreness in the big toe he broke when he dropped a bowling ball on it while skylarking with friends about five weeks ago.

"He's training really well, he's put his hand up for selection again," Lyon said.

"We'll do our final session tonight and then try and make a final decision but it's going to be incredibly difficult."
