Lenny Hayes on brink of all-time AFL tackling record

Lenny Hayes

MATCH PREVIEW: Adelaide v St Kilda

Hayes will play his 297th and final AFL match against Adelaide on Sunday, and is aiming to beat Jude Bolton’s AFL/VFL record tally of 1490 tackles.

But the 34-year-old will have to improve on his season average of 6.2.

Bolton, drafted in the same year as Hayes, played 325 matches for Sydney between 1999 and 2013.

"Lenny is such a good tackler primarily because he wants to tackle,” Saints coach Alan Richardson told the club website.

"He has a really good appetite for the hard stuff and to get after the opposition when they have the footy.

"Tackling will not work unless you have the want to get after the opposition and he has that in abundance."

The match at Adelaide Oval starts at 2.50pm (ACST).
