Hawthorn star Lance Franklin will not play against Sydney in Friday night's qualifying final after accepting a one-match ban for his bump on Swans defender Nick Malceski.

Franklin was handed a level two rough conduct charge by the AFL's Match Review Panel (MRP) for his bump on Malceski in the second quarter of last week's match at ANZ Stadium and took the early guilty plea to reduce his suspension from two games to one.

It means the 26-year-old key forward will be available for Hawthorn's second match in the finals series, whether that is a semi or preliminary final.

All 18 players cited by the MRP based on Round 23's games accepted their penalties.

Essendon's Jake Melksham is set to start his 2014 season in Round 3 after he declined to challenge his level three striking charge for an incident involving Richmond's Daniel Jackson, while St Kilda's Leigh Montagna has accepted a one-match ban for striking Fremantle's Ryan Crowley.

Brisbane defender Matt Maguire escaped with a reprimand for his punch to the chest of Steve Johnson of Geelong due to his early plea, while Hawks skipper Luke Hodge, Crows ruckman Sam Jacobs, Matt Priddis of West Coast and Toby Greene of the Giants all accepted fines for making contact with an umpire.

The AFL also received a boost of $14,100 after 10 Melbourne and Western Bulldogs players accepted fines for a melee in their clash on Sunday.

The Demons' Jordie McKenzie copped $2,700 after the MRP deemed him to be the instigator of the melee, while his team-mates Jack Viney, Max Gawn, Dean Kent and Colin Sylvia, plus Will Minson, Lachie Hunter, Jordan Roughead, Ryan Griffen and Jarrad Grant of the Bulldogs all took early pleas to reduce their fines.
