Carlton forward Jarrad Waite and St Kilda veteran Justin Koschitzke have both been handed suspensions by the match review panel on Monday.

It didn't take long for Waite to find himself in the MRP's bad books with the ill-disciplined 30-year-old handed a one-game ban in just his first game for the year for headbutting Melbourne defender Tom McDonald.

Waite will sit out Carlton's Monday night match against St Kilda with an early plea.

Koschitzke, meanwhile, was dealt a two-week sanction for striking Collingwood youngster Jamie Elliott in an off-the-ball incident on Friday night.

The Saints forward's penalty was impacted by his bad record which has seen him suspended in each of the last seven seasons.

Meanwhile, Geelong captain Joel Selwood and Richmond defender Chris Newman can accept $1800 and $900 respectively with an early plea for wrestling each other on Saturday night.

The match day reports of Port Adelaide midfielder Chad Wingard and Melbourne tough nut Luke Tapscott for making high contact with North Melbourne's Ben Cunnington and Carlton veteran Kade Simpson respectively were thrown out.

In other incidents that were scrutinised by the MRP, North ruckman Todd Goldstein was cleared of making contact to Port forward Justin Westhoff while Hawthorn superstar Lance Franklin was found to have no case to answer for contact he made with Adelaide's Andy Otten.

The MRP also took no action against Richmond big man Tyrone Vickery and Fremantle's Lee Spurr for their respective collisions with Selwood and Gold Coast code-hopper Karmichael Hunt.
