Kerr in doubt

West Coast coach John Worsfold says star midfielder Daniel Kerr is only a 50-50 chance to play against St Kilda on Saturday night.

Kerr has helped lead West Coast's stunning resurgence from 2010 wooden spooners to top four contenders this year, but the 28-year-old has battled injuries for much of the season and has missed three of their 14 games.

Worsfold said it was too early to tell whether Kerr will be fit for the game against the Saints at Etihad Stadium.

"(He's battling) various things around his hip region. He's obviously had massive surgery to the top part of his hamstring, but he has had some issues with his glute, that's the one that he missed earlier in the year," he said.

"I would say right now he's 50-50, but he's been 50-50 this time of the week probably for the last six."

"It means he always gets better late in the week. As the game approaches the enthusiasm kicks in and adrenalin and he's been okay."

"We'll put our squad in tomorrow afternoon as normal and if he doesn't come up then we won't put him in. If he's still a chance to come up then he'll be in the squad. If he's good he'll definitely be in the squad and he'll be on the plane."

While losing Kerr would be a significant blow to the Eagles' hopes of extending their five-game winning streak, it could be partially offset by the possible return of vice-captain Beau Waters.

Waters has been out since round two with an elbow injury, but has performed strongly in the WAFL and Worsfold said he was in contention to return.

"Beau has trained tremendously well, so he could easily come in and play a full game, but he could easily come in and play as a sub as well if we choose to go with him," he said.

"It's not that we're keen to get him in as quickly as possible, but when he's right he'll be in our best team."

While West Coast are in tremendous form, one concern has been their third quarter fadeouts.

Despite winning their last five games by an average of 26 points, the Eagles have been outscored in the third quarter of each of those matches by 16.4 points per quarter.

"It's a mystery," Worsfold said. "It's not as though it's been a downward trend from there, because our last quarters are still good."

"We've done a few different things in the last few weeks and they haven't worked."

"Obviously you could change your structure around but if you've got a good lead, you don't want to tinker with those things too much."

Meanwhile the club have been given a huge boost ahead of this weekend's clash with St Kilda with key position player Mitch Brown and midfielder Matt Priddis both extending their deals with the club on Wednesday.

Brown and Priddis have both added another two years to their current deals, keeping them at the Eagles until the end of the 2013 season.

"This is a very exciting time at the football club and we are building towards something special," Priddis said.

"There-s some real energy among the playing group and great camaraderie which makes it so enjoyable."

"We have improved significantly this year and that gives us a great platform for the rest of this season and beyond."

Brown added: "Settling on the contract now allows me to concentrate purely on playing football."

"All of the boys are very tight and we are keen to achieve some important goals together."

"That has been shown with a number of guys re-signing in the last few weeks and it really is an exciting time. We are playing good football at the moment, but we really want to build on this and take it to another level."
