Hinkley: Power won't copy Dees

Port Adelaide are unlikely to copy Melbourne's tactics to stop Gold Coast superstar Gary Ablett, according to Power coach Ken Hinkley.

Ablett was held to just 19 disposals, his lowest total for the Suns other than when he hurt his knee against Sydney and collected just three in 2011, in Gold Coast's 13-point win over the Demons.

AFL umpiring boss Jeff Gieschen admitted Ablett should have been awarded several free kicks against Melbourne.

And that may be enough for Hinkley, who said Kane Cornes was likely to start on Ablett when the teams meet at AAMI Stadium on Saturday.

"We will play within the rules definitely and do our absolute best," Hinkley told reporters on Friday.

"Gary doesn't let many things stop him. I have seen a fair bit of what happened last week. Gieschen has actually said there was some stuff that probably shouldn't have been let go on.

"We won't be looking to do that but we will be looking to do our absolute best to make his day hard though."

Ablett had 35 disposals in a losing side when the teams met in Round 14 and 25 touches the time before that - Round 9, 2012.

Hinkley said Cornes would need support from his team-mates when he lines up on the 2009 Brownlow medallist.

"It is fair to think Kane will be one. Look at the last couple of times we've put Kane on him and it is probably 1-1," Hinkley said.

"Last time, Gaz got Kane early and we put Dom (Cassisi) on him and the time before that Kane was pretty good. We'd expect Kane to go somewhere near him."

Hinkley, whose team sit eighth and are almost certain to play finals, said they had performed above his expectations.

"Have we probably performed, purely by the numbers, a bit better than I thought we would? I think I would say yes," Hinkley said.

"I'm really proud of the way they have gone about it and the club for the whole year has made significant steps forward."
