Harvey not interested in Lions job

Just days after taking over from dumped coach Michael Voss, caretaker Brisbane boss Mark Harvey insists he has no interest in winning the job full-time.

The former Fremantle coach, who was sensationally given his marching orders in late 2011 when the Dockers signed Ross Lyon from St Kilda, will lead the Lions for the final three games of this season against the Giants, Bulldogs and Cats.

But Harvey, who was thrown a lifeline by Voss as his senior assistant at the Gabba, told reporters on Friday morning that he is content with the role he was filling until Voss was dumped on Tuesday.

"I've been a senior assistant coach and I've really grown in that job," said Harvey ahead of the club's expected announcement of Voss' replacement in coming days.

"That's where I see myself in football now.

"I've just made a decision that this is where I see my area of the game."

Former Sydney premiership coach Paul Roos, who has a romantic connection to the club having played most of his career at Fitzroy, is the favourite to take over the job.

Harvey though preferred to laud Voss, who decided against finishing the season when told his contract would not be renewed after five seasons in charge, suggesting he deserved to remain in charge ahead of what he believes will be an exciting era at Brisbane.

"He was the one on the phone to me, along with (football manager) Dean Warren, to give me an opportunity beyond my previous coaching," Harvey added.

"I came over here to help him. It's unfortunate that it's happened.

"You always like to think you can coach a team when you've just about got it on the verge of doing something special and Vossy would fall into that category.

"We've got a good young list and a big bright future.

"There's not many reasons why you wouldn't want to have this job."
