Goodes set for return against Cats

Sydney Swans coach John Longmire confirmed that the dual-Brownlow Medal winner has signalled his intentions to return to training ahead of the side’s clash with the Cats in Geelong next Saturday night.

Goodes rang Longmire on Sunday afternoon to tell him that he wished to play next Saturday, much to the delight of the Sydney coach.

Longmire agreed that there were fears that Goodes would leave the game altogether, after he was granted extended leave from the club amidst the booing saga.

However, Goodes was reportedly overwhelmed with the support from the Sydney crowd as they celebrated one of the game’s modern legends with a 52-point mauling of the Crows last Saturday afternoon.

“I don’t think he had intentions to watch the game, but he ended up watching the final three quarters,” Longmire said on Monday.

“We as a football club are extremely grateful for the amount of support from the football community, whether they be coaches, club, players and supporters - it’s been amazing.

“Adam is especially humbled by it.”

Should Goodes take the field again on Saturday night, all eyes will turn to the Geelong crowd to see the reaction towards the two-time premiership player from an opposition crowd.
