Goodes back to face Cats

Sydney coach John Longmire has confirmed that Adam Goodes should return from injury against Geelong on Friday night.

Goodes has been out with a quadriceps injury since the Swans' five-point loss to Adelaide in Round 6 but Longmire expects the 32-year-old will be fit enough to take on the Cats at the SCG.

"There's no expectation for him to come into the team and dominate from the first bounce," Longmire said of Goodes on his comeback.

"We just expect him to come back and play a really good role for us.

"We know he's a fit player, we know he can play forward, midfield, a number of roles for us."

Goodes trained on Wednesday and barring a late set-back, he will run out again under lights on Friday.

"At this stage we expect him to train today and play him," Longmire said.

Longmire paid tribute to Goodes' commitment and professionalism, which helped him play 204 consecutive AFL games.

"You don't get to that sort of level without being an absolute professional," he said.

"His attention to detail, our medical staff and our conditioning staff are constantly amazed at the lengths that he goes to get himself right."

Small forward Ben McGlynn will also return, after serving a one-match suspension for striking Western Bulldog Patrick Veszpremi.

"He missed the one game with suspension and the bye week and he's feeling really fresh and he's important player for us," Longmire said.
