Gold Coast Suns emerge as top four contenders, but coach keeps focus on top eight

MORE: Karmichael Hunt could decide NRL return within a month

The Suns smashed rebuilding St Kilda in the first half on Sunday on the way to a regulation 38-point win.

It was their second easy win at Etihad Stadium in a row.

By the end of Round 10, Gold Coast could be equal top of the ladder should it beat Western Bulldogs at home and Hawthorn defeats Port Adelaide.

But McKenna is not reading much into the ladder position.

"I reckon it takes you 16 (wins) to get into the top four, so we are a long way off that," he said.

"The last month has been favourable for us, but we have just completed one lap and we have two laps to come.

"We have a tough draw coming up and we are going to have to weather the storm."

McKenna insisted simply qualifying for a maiden finals appearance was Gold Coast's only focus.
"We are not shying away from that," he said.

"If the boys think the work is done, we have got a long way to go."
