Video: Goal umpire gets flattened, continues on with job

One goal umpire copped an enormous hit midway through the third quarter during the Suns v Giants match on the Gold Coast on Saturday afternoon.

As Giants’ ruckman Rory Lobb found his way to goal from just inside 50, Gold Coast defender Steven May’s chest found the slightly built umpire as he ran back towards the goalface in a thwarted attempt to kill the ball.

The umpire took quite a spill, but jumped back up and got on with the job - awarding the goal and readjusting his hat in the process.

May could be in a bit of trouble with the AFL’s Match Review Panel, but hopefully common sense prevails considering the defender couldn’t avoid the contact during the incident.
