What happened
The first 10 minutes was an arm wrestle but the Cats left the visitors for dead after that, booting the last 12 goals of the game.

Thirty two points is West Coast's lowest score ever against the Cats.

Skipper Joel Selwood was Geelong's best, gathering 27 disposals and nailing two goals, including a 45m beauty from near the boundary in the second quarter.

Defender Jared Rivers often pushed up the ground in what was his strongest effort since joining the Cats at the start of last year.

Mathew Stokes, George Horlin-Smith, Mitch Duncan, Cameron Guthrie and Corey Enright were other contributors for Geelong.

Fallout
On the back of a red-hot pre-season and wins against the Bulldogs, Melbourne and St Kilda, the Eagles won more than enough esteem as top-four contenders.

But on the strength of this effort, they will struggle to make the top eight.

A suspected Achilles injury to Nic Naitanui could compound the disappointing loss.

Tough matches against Port Adelaide and Fremantle in the next three weeks will shed more light on where West Coast should be rated in 2014.

Geelong's only worry was a hamstring injury to Andrew Mackie, with scans to determine the severity.

Hope they're in my fantasy team
Steve Johnson shanked of few of his kicks but the mercurial Cat still managed to rack up 37 possessions.

Andrew Gaff was the leading Eagle but had only 24 touches.

What's next
Geelong faces its greatest challenge of the season so far, meeting rivals Hawthorn in an Easter Monday blockbuster at the MCG.

The Eagles host Port Adelaide in a Saturday twilight match at Patersons Stadium.
