Former AFL star on attempted murder charge

Albert Proud

Troubled former Brisbane Lions midfielder Albert Proud is staring at life in prison after being charged with the attempted murder of his girlfriend.

Proud remains in custody as a result of an incident that is understood to have taken place in the Brisbane suburb of Holland Park during the early hours of Sunday morning.

The 27 year old has been charged with attempted murder, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and wilful damage.

Proud’s charges were heard briefly in Richlands Magistrates Court on Monday morning where he chose not to apply for bail.

It’s not the first time Proud has had a brush with the law, last year he was found guilty of speeding on the wrong side of the road to avoid police while unlicensed and more than twice the legal blood alcohol limit before being released on parole in February.
