Justice John Middleton ruled the investigation into the Bombers 2011-2012 supplements program was lawful with the decision also stating that Essendon must pay ASADA's court costs.

Infraction notices now must be answered by Essendon players implicated in the doping breaches with Hird's future as coach of the club now hanging in the balance.

Justice Middleton outlined that even if he had found the investigation unlawful, the 34 infraction notices issued would not have been ruled void.

The Bombers have until October 1 to appeal the decision.
