Eight contenders to be next Crows coach

16:9. Crows coaches

Mark Bickley

The dual premiership captain at the Crows coached Adelaide for six matches in 2011 after Neil Craig was forced out.

He was overlooked for the senior position at the club when Brenton Sanderson was appointed but he is now the senior assistant.

Has good friends on the Adelaide board and his reputation as a people person would serve him well, especially after Sanderson's apparent failure to build relationships with the players.

John Worsfold

Former West Coast coach John Worsfold has recently taken over as chairman of the AFL Coaches' Association. But premiership coaches don't grow on trees and the Crows could do much worse than sound Woosha out.

Luke Beveridge

This man has a low profile. However, according to some in the industry, is a senior coach in waiting.

The former St Kilda, Melbourne and Hawthorn player became the first person in VAFA history to coach a team from a C-Grade to A-Grade premiership in three seasons, when he took St Bede's Mentone to three flags between 2006 and 2008.

He worked at Collingwood in 2010 and is currently an assistant at reigning premiers Hawthorn.

If the Crows are not interested, you can bet a Melbourne club will be at some stage.

Stuart Dew

The Port Adelaide and Hawthorn premiership player Stuart Dew who is now an assistant coach at Sydney.

Premierships seem to follow him from club to club. But could the Crows stomach having a former Port Adelaide stalwart at the helm?

Mark Ricciuto

Reasonably unlikely given Ricciuto currently works in the media and has very limited coaching experience.

Currently the club's football director, he played 312 games for the Crows and holds them dear.

If the Roo did take the reins, it would not be the first time a board member has voted for a coach to be sacked, and then taken the job himself..... Think Grant Thomas at St Kilda.

Ross Lyon

Last time Ross the Boss coached a winless finals campaign (St Kilda in 2011) he abruptly jumped ship to take advantage of a young and talent-filled list at the Dockers.

Right now, Lyon would have some concerns about Fremantle's list..... But surely not.

Alistair Clarkson

Yes, this is one is extremely far-fetched.

If he's not the best coach in the business, he's certainly in the top three.

And that makes him a wanted man at every club.

Clarko is contracted until the end of next year. But another flag at the Hawks this year might prompt him to seek new challenges.
