Western Bulldogs lose Robert Murphy for two months

Robert Murphy

The 31-year-old landed awkwardly at training on Thursday and will be sidelined for at least eight weeks.

Scans on his elbow revealed damage to his tendon and while the club are awaiting further advice, surgery is looking the likely option.

"While we expecting confirmation from the specialist, we're optimistic Bob will be available to play in the early parts of the season," medical services manager Andrew McKenzie said.

"Bob is a resilient person, and will rehabilitate the injury with the professionalism we've seen from him over 14 seasons at the club."

The injury is just the latest in a long list across the competition.

Just this week it has been announced that Aidan Riley has been placed on Melbourne's long-term injury list, Port Adelaide's Jarrad Redden will miss 10 weeks and young Magpie Matt Scharenberg will have surgery on his foot and be out for the first half of the season.
